MS Sydney to the Gong Bike Ride 2010

On Sunday 7 November 2010, a more experienced and most enthusiastic Gravitus Consulting Group team of eight participated in the annual Sydney to the Gong charity bike ride.  With the last minute withdrawal of key riders due to over training and flu, some foreign recruits were welcome. In a sea of mud Roger Rankin and Ruth Lock set up a support tent with much needed food and drink for the valiant team, with Ian and Debbie Handley ensuring liquid refreshment were available to sustain all and sundry.

The Gong Ride is a one of a kind fundraising event. The teams pedal 90 kilometres from Sydney to Wollongong in support of people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  MS Australia (www.msaustralia.org.au) is a charity dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of people with Multiple Sclerosis and reducing the impact it has on family and friends.

The Gravitus cycling team set off for Wollongong in style with the distinctive Gravitus cycle shirts in blue and orange standing out from the crowd.  This year Phillip Hoare had no problem crossing the finish line (no kids in tow this time!) with the rest of the team not far behind.  James Grima took on the full 90km distance and David Glasheen excelled in his first 58km attempt.

Ross Hill flew the flag for the architects and urban designers in 2011.

There were silly costumes as in other years and some brave souls, with little regard for their bruised backsides, came along in red budgie smugglers as a tribute to Federal Opposition leader Tony Abbott, who dresses this way for triathlons and photo ops.

The Gravitus team raised $2,020 for MS Australia and contributed to the $3,535,000 raised from the day with almost 10,000 riders participating.
